    Description

Presented is an attractive little English sterling silver vinaigrette or scent
box. This piece was made by Charles Reily & George Storer of London and
dates to 1835. The box is done in a classical octagonal form, beautifully hand
engraved with scrolling foliage and floral decoration. The top of the box has a
cartouche with the monogram SWH. The interior of the box has a pierced grill,
with the holes arranged in a double diamond design. Both the interior and the
grill have a gold wash. This box is exceptionally well made, with a pleasing
feeling of weight in the hand. The engraved decoration is likewise exceptionally
    crisp and well done.
This piece is hallmarked on the interior with the lion passant for sterling
silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter U for 1835,
King William IV's head duty mark, and the maker's mark for Charles Reily &
George Storer. The interior of the lid is also stamped with the lion passant for
sterling silver,  the date letter U for 1835, and the maker's mark for Charles
    Reily & George Storer.
The box measures about 1 3/8 by 7/8 by 1/2 an inch, LxWxH.
    This piece weighs 28 grams.
